Summary 3 - Organized adventure
Pubblicato sul blog di "Tre uomini in barca" il 26 luglio col titolo "Avventura organizzata":
E’ began studying mad and desperate on charts and guidebooks.
fact, been going on for some weeks: while Mauro is delighted to pass on the GPS all the possible landing points derived from the analysis of cross-charts and satellite maps, I am dedicated to the groom to collect all the tourist guides possible guidance to the trip.
It 's a bit disappointing to see what all the tourist information are given for visiting the land from Earth, not even the pilot books seem to take into account the opposite perspective of the sailors who travel, who instead see the world FROM THE SEA.
So everything must be analyzed on the contrary, if for example driving says there is a beach, it will certainly be difficult for us to land between chairs and umbrellas, the paper says that if the coastal road is dirt, then maybe we will not find the bathing establishments, but if the resort is known then it is also rich in local Night, definitely not suitable for spending a quiet night in a tent ... and so on.
Because you have five weeks to cover the more than 1000 km of coastline of the island, we figured they have to go at least 30-35 km per day, so you have even a few days of margin in the event of bad weather, so we should see if is it really possible to mount the field every night 30 km, in addition to land for rest lunch or afternoon snack or for supplies, if needed, or if there are points of escape along the coast or sheltered places ...
short, long hours of lectures dedicated to the evaluation of information collected and the transcript of the news paper on the curious: I wonder if the marina of 200 berths in Paleohora built long ago has now been terminated? There will still be pink beach on the island of Elafonissi? And the sheltered bay of Kissamos to the sails will be suitable for our kayak?
It 's almost a trip before the trip and is perhaps one of the most exciting ...

It is beginning the crazy and desperate study on the nautical maps and on the tourist guides.
Really, it has already been going on for a few weeks: while Mauro transfers on the GPS all the possible places to land, find out by the cross analysis of nautical and google maps, I'm devoting myself to reed the tourist guides to pick up all the useful indications for the trip.
I'm disappointed, because all the tourist informations are given for visiting the world from the land, and they don't keep in mind the opposite perspective of a sea trip, when the traveller discovers the world from the sea. So every thing must be analyzed contrarily: for example, if the guide says there is a beach, it will certainly be difficult for us to land there, among sun ombrellas and deckchairs; if it says there is a dirt road along the coast, maybe there we won't find a beach resort; instead, if there is a touristis place, then it will be decidedly difficult spend there a relaxing night; and so on.
Having 5 weeks available to cover the 500 miles coastline of the island, we've calculated to paddle at least 15-18 miles a day, to also have few free days in case of bad weather; we owe therefore to understand if it is possible to put the tent every 15 miles indeed, besides landing for the break lunch or for the snack or for the restocking, or if it is simple to find a sheltered area in case of necessity.
In short, long time of readings, devoted to the evaluation of the picked informations and the transcription on the paper of the curious news: who knows if the new Paleochora harbour with 200 boat places is now finished? It still be a pink beach on the islet of Elafonissi? And will be the Kissamos bay, mended for the sails, also available for our kayaks?
It is almost a trip before the trip, and it is maybe one of the most exciting moments.
