Meno entusiasmante di quanto immaginassimo, con una jagged rocky coast and at times occupied by hundreds of greenhouses and citrus orchards, however, hides places of incredible beauty.
Falassarna reach the long beach, among the most popular island for its turbulent water and a thousand shades of blue, a day of strong wind and foaming waves that break on the sandy shore noisy but incredibly steep lead us to go a little further: I discovered a taverna overlooking the sea where we eat so well that he decided to keep us for dinner, taking advantage of the live music of the nearby festival.
The next day, for shopping, we climb up the small village of Sfinari, a country like hanging out time, with a handful of houses along the panoramic road which goes only through the olive groves: a single operator Kafenio with nice, fat, tattooed belting an improbable conversations "itagrechese, honey exposed site close to the hives of the courtyard more leafy tree where the dog is related but not the goat, big blue pots on balconies and bales of hay and crates of onions next to the pick-up only possible way for these rugged mountains and on which dozens of towering wind turbines . The west coast of C network is not as enthusiastic as we imagined, with hundreds of greenhouses and orange trees, however with places of unbelievable beauty.
We reach the long beach of Falassarna, on of the most frequent beach of the island for its turbulent water and the thousand gradations of blue; we arrive in a day of strong wind and the foamy waves break noisy on the sandy and incredibly tall coast: so we paddle ahead and we discover a tavern leaned out on the sea where we eat so well that we simply decide to have lunch and dinner too, hearing popolar music and eating fresh fish.
The day after, we have to do shopping so we climb at the top of the small village of Sfinari, suspended out of the time, with a few group of houses along the only panoramic road between olive trees: a kafenio with the nice, fat and tattooed manager that laces an unlikely conversations in "Ita-Englis-Greek", honey exposed in the courtyards, great blue amphoras on the balconies and baskets of onions close to the pick-ups.
A series of low promontories delineates the coast up to the extreme southern point and it seems that the sea has attacked furiously the lava rock that has been frayed in twisted and anxious forms: it seems a lunar landscape. The last head hides one of the most beautiful beaches: Elafonissi.
Famous for its turquoise water and rosy sand, it is unfortunately full of swimmers, arrived there by boat from the near tourist places. The day after, early in the morning, we enjoy a walk in the low waters that divide the mother island from the small islan. It was not easy to leave Elafonissi but we turn our kayaks on east direction and the long southern coast is attending us... the trip continues and the enthusiasm increases.
